Why stress is the most common reason young athletes quit sports

There is no doubt about the positive influence of sports for the young people. Therefore, many parents take their children to the fields or courts to have a regular exercise and why not, start competing later on.

When your child is involved in any sport and competing regularly, things may go wrong sometimes, and one of the reasons is setting the bar too high.

Unrealistically high goals and expectations can be very stressful for your child and can lead to negative consequences. So, how to understand when your child is stressed out? The stress is expressed with various symptoms in your child’s behavior and health.

Behaviour symptoms: isolation, aggressiveness, doesn’t want to participate in activities, has “phobias”, insomnia

Health symptoms (physical): pain in the abdomen (stomach), chest pain, dyspnea, teak/s, frequent vomiting

It’s very important to notice when the above changes appear and have a friendly conversation with your child, letting him/her know they have your full support and shouldn’t feel guilty for “not meeting your expectations”.

Here are some tips to help your young athlete feel stress free:

·       See the world from your child’s point of view

·       Lower the expectations

·       Be supportive and understanding

·       Show faith in their skills

·       Let your child play

Remember: The Health of Your Kid Is More Important Than Their Ranking and Points
